The clients and people who come to us are getting more diverse. We ourselves must reflect this too.”

Emma Richardson, Director of People and Development

Supporting a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Diversity data is important to help us shape a workplace that feels safe and fosters a sense of belonging for us all. Historically our diversity data has been limited which we wanted to resolve. In 2024, we asked our people to start sharing more about themselves if they were comfortable to do so. From this, we will create a baseline from which we can understand the effectiveness of our EDI activities.

Gender diversity:

Our approach to EDI is managed across 8 strands:

Gender, Disability, LGBTQIA+, Faith, Race & Ethnicity, Social Mobility, Parents & Carers and Wellbeing.

Each has its own leader and team; plan and board sponsor.

Enabling easier access to the legal profession.

We know the legal sector is not representative of the UK’s diverse communities. In June 2024, we launched a new bursary in memory of our colleague Nigel Stanford designed for under-resourced or under-represented students wanting to pursue a career in law. With Mascalls Academy in Kent, we welcomed our first year 13 student in October. With a £6,000 investment, mentoring with our future talent manager and peer-to-peer learning with a solicitor apprentice, this student will receive tailored career support over the next three years.

Some highlights from our year.

We can’t do this alone.

We enjoyed some great partnerships in 2024. We will continue to seek organisations that help us power progress.

We can achieve more.

  • Gender representation at firm ownership is improving - 64% of our equity partners are men, where this was previously 70%. We’re moving in the right direction, but we must go further.
  • We must continue to support greater inclusion of under-represented groups through training, awareness and working with partnership organisations.
  • We will grow but not at any cost. Our values are the essence of who we are and must be part of our decision-making.
